NArFU to Host Arctic Science Summit Week
On 22-30 May, 2019 Arkhangelsk will be welcoming the participants of the annual Arctic Science Summit Week, initiated by the International Arctic Science Committee. This will be Russia’s second time hosting the event.
Arkhangelsk was chosen as the venue due to its status as the largest Arctic city in the world. The event will take place in Northern Arctic Federal University and Northern State Medical University. The discussion will be focused on climate change and human development in the Arctic. The forum will gather more than 400 researchers from over 40 countries. The programme includes dozens of roundtables and debates with hundreds of presentations on 22 contemporary issues.
The forum’s theme is currently relevant for the Arctic areas, for climate change poses certain risks for people inhabiting the Arctic and the functioning of the macroregion’s key infrastructure.
Among the keynote speakers are members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, renowned researchers from leading scientific centers worldwide, CEOs of Russia’s major national companies, facilitating the industrial and infrastructural development of the region («Gazprom», "Alrosa","Atomflot"), representatives of the Arctic territories.
The summit will also feature the awarding of the IASC medal, one of the most prestigious prizes for Arctic research. The ceremony will be followed by the awardee’s lecture.
Participation in the Arctic Science Summit Week in Arkhangelsk is a unique opportunity for young researchers, undergraduate and PhD students to learn more about the latest achievements in Arctic research.
