Russians and Norwegians will take part in the joint voyage of the “Arctic Floating University”
The third expedition of the «Arctic Floating University — 2013» is scheduled for the period from 6 to 17 August. This voyage will be dedicated to the Norwegian polar explorer and scientist Fridtjof Nansen. The research vessel «Professor Molchanov» will once again become the base for the expedition. The trip is organized by the University of Tromsø, the Norwegian Polar Institute, the Northern (Arctic) Federal University, the Siberian Federal University, the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring and the Barents Secretariat.
Representatives of educational and research institutions, agencies of federal, regional, municipal authorities, business community and mass-media from Russia and Norway will take part in the expedition.
50 members of the expedition will get on board of the vessel that will make a trip from Archangelsk to Norilsk in 11 days. It is scheduled that the expedition will visit the Kolguev Island and the Dixon Island.
The new voyage of «Professor Molchanov» will promote cooperation and partnership of scientific organizations of Norway and Russia with the representatives of business and government in both countries. The expedition will also promote study and exploration of the Arctic and the Far North.
The expedition members will discuss the history of Arctic exploration, trends and alternatives of development of the Arctic geopolitics as well as future of the indigenous peoples and prospects of doing business in the North-Eastern Russia and in the Arctic.
In August 6 NArFU will hold a workshop «F. Nansen, Russia and Norway: Cooperation through the ages». It will be attended by the Governor of the Arkhangelsk region Igor Orlov, Rector of NArFU Elena Kudryashova, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Anton Vasiliev, Consul General of Norway in Murmansk Øyvind Nordsletten and others. The participants will hear some reports and visit the research centers and laboratories of the university.
