Library History
The history of the E. I. Ovsyankin Intellectual Center-Scientific Library began with the establishment of educational institutions that have now become an integral part of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov.
1893 — Technical College Library of Emperor Peter I
In 1893 a library was established in the Forestry College, the books for which were transferred from a technical library created by a local entrepreneur named Y. E. Makarov.
1929 — Scientific and Technical Library of the Arkhangelsk State Technical University
The scientific and technical library was founded as a library for the Arkhangelsk Forestry Engineering Institute in 1929, at the same time as the institute itself. Since 1979, the library became a methodical center for city libraries of higher and secondary specialized educational institutions, and since 1988 — of the Archangelsk region as a whole.
1932 — Scientific Library of the M. V. Lomonosov Pomor State University
In 1932, a library was opened at the Arkhangelsk Evening Pedagogical Institute (later Arkhangelsk State Pedagogical Institute), whose fund included 4330 books and textbooks from a seminary as well as a provincial gymnasium, including books from the Arkhangelsk Society for the Study of the North. This collection of publications from the XVIII century is the pride of the modern scientific library of the university.
1939 — The Shipbuilding College Library
In 1939 a library was opened in the Shipbuilding College of Molotovsk (later renamed to Severodvinsk). Today this is the library of the Severodvinsk branch of NArFU.
1963 — Library of the Arkhangelsk branch of the National Russian Correspondence Financial and Economic Institute
On September 1, 1963 a consulting center of the National Union Correspondence Financial and Economic Institute was established in Arkhangelsk. This date is also considered to be the date of the establishment of the library.
In 2013, the branch was included as a part of the Northern Arctic Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov.
1991 — Library of the Severodvinsk branch of Pomor State University
The Pomor University library branch in Severodvinsk was established in 1991. Since then the library fund has increased from 240 to 160 thousand units.
2010 — E. I. Ovsyankin Intellectual Center-Scientific Library of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov
The Northern (Arctic) Federal University was established on the 8th of June, 2010 on the basis of the Archangelsk State University.
